Today was
full of surprises ;) We started work with birds and met some new English speaking
people: the Birdie-guy and “Peter Pan”.
The day started with changing waters and cleaning around while the birdie guy fed the birds. Then we helped him feed the predatory birds and watched the vet assistant treat an eagle with a broken wing. They had repaired the wing earlier, now she put some lotion on the wing and just changed the bandages.
On our way to lunch we met Peter Pan. His English was music to our ears ( his pronunciation was amazingly perfect, unlike most of the others ). We’ve seen him before a few times, but today we officially met him. His first reaction to us was interesting to say the least: he turned around and looked like “oh, you’re there too” but actually he was just surprised to learn we were Finnish ( he had thought we were Hungarian and he wasn’t the first one to think so ). We might just “accidentally” run into him every day from now on just to rest our ears… He's a gentle giant :)
After lunch we met up with our favorite monkey keeper and headed to the African Elephants. Peter Pan was there too ( though we aren’t really sure what animals he usually works with ). We learned the names of the Elephants: Jack ( though we call him George ), Kwanza and Buba ( who we had the privilege to feed today ). They were just amazing, magnificent creatures!! This time we were allowed to get closer than with the Indian Elephants, which made it an experience to remember <3
After that there was some trouble with the piping system of a crocodile pool, so we learned what a crocodile sounds like:
Lastly we
gathered new decorations for the squirrels and helped the Birdie-guy redecorate
the cage. There were a lot of huge ugly cockroaches and some other yucky things
involved in the process… ( Now we're just exhausted )
